One of the questions we often hear is “what is vegan leather, and how is it different from leather?”
Leatherette is a synthetic material that resembles natural leather made from animal hides. Because of advancements in production technology, high quality vegan leather (such as the kind used by BRAUM) can be just as soft and appealing as natural leather.
Vegan leather is not only an ethical choice, it is also easier to maintain than natural leather. Spills and dirt on vegan leather seats can be easily wiped with a damp cloth, whereas upkeep for leather seats is generally more difficult.
For many years, leatherette has been offered as an entry-level interior option by most major automobile manufacturers. Toyota, BMW, Audi and many other manufacturers all have their own versions of vegan leather material. Because of its durability and its affordability, vegan leather is also one of the main options currently offered on BRAUM seats.
We are aware that some enthusiasts prefer the luxury of real leather seats, so in mid-2017 we were launching our BESPOKE program. This long awaited program will offer custom options including an an upgrade to natural leather – ethically sourced, of course.
